Her mom matured beyond Bratislava in what was then Czechoslovakia, and her dad’s household is from Hiroshima, Japan.” I have a big location in my heart for food and the neighborhood around that,” she states.” Growing up with Eastern European and Japanese household, they are not the most lovey-dovey individuals on the planet. The method they reveal love is by feeding you.”

While she was curating Potluck, Matsuura thought of how food plays substantial functions in cultural associations, the diaspora, and how they are adjoined. The seed for the concept was planted in2019, when artist Casey Gray revealed Matsuura a couple of individual deal with paper: a charcuterie board and a sheet pan with fish and carrots on it. They began speaking about doing a food-themed program. The very first model of the program in September2019 was at Hashimoto Contemporary’s San Francisco area.
