Is that what they are calling it these days? Did they check his palms for hair?
Poor kid must be suffering from Mountain Dew deficiency.
This is right up there with the classics from Drew’s first book. A thing that is not true but will be repeated for eternity.
Oh myGod. I don’t see well when it’s dark! 😱
I get the parents being busy and all, but they really should have had the kid on a more well balanced, American style of diet.
So the correct amount is one less than however many he ate. Got it.
I get that maybe there’s something lost in translation, but how is that the parents could afford chicken nuggets and sausages yet were too stupid to think that their child needed a balanced diet? Someone needs to have their children taken away from them.
Simpsons did it, sort of.

Parents are just people. People are dumb.

Dude, look around. Fast food is cheap. Easier than going to Whole Foods and getting fresh fruit and veggies and pasta etc and cooking etc. It’s always been more expensive to eat healthy.

Are you a vitamin-denier, or a shill for big-nugget?
…a condition that “happens because of long-term damage to optic nerve fibers from many different causes,”
.
Wrong!
It’s only caused by eating chicken nuggets, cookies and sausage.

Parents should have given him carrot cake instead of cookies.
The Daily Mail reported that the boy’s instructors became aware of the problem after he asked, “Teacher, why can’t I see anything?”

“As a mother, we can’t always cook because we are busy.”
First of all, “we” are not “a mother”, and that’s an insane excuse, doctor. What the hell are the mothers doing that keeps them continuously busy? Second, the problem was due to a lack of vitamin A, and carrots don’t need to be cooked. Milk doesn’t need to be cooked. Many sources of vitamin A don’t need to be cooked.
Have all the kid’s teeth fallen out yet? I’m amazed he hasn’t gotten scurvy.
He was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with severe vitamin A deficiency, according to The Daily Mail, which noted that the condition affects 1% of Americans, although to a lesser extent.
he was diagnosed, looks like a blood test would have help to firm that up a bit.
affects 1% of Americans, so this kid is not from here.
to a lesser extent. so less than 1% or that we don’t go blind ?
story lacks a bit of accuracy .
Ain’t nothing wrong with that. That’s how I were raised.
A child went permanently blind due to an unhealthy diet

There might be traces of vitamin C in the sweet ‘n sour dipping sauce.
An American local radio station reporting on an article in the Daily Mail?
So what do you think is the likelihood of even a shed of truth?
a) a trace
b) some, but misinterpreted
c) bugger all
d) fetch the tumbrils!
My mom smoked, but it was only crack
/ no shortage of folks here on earth
I love how the article mentions all of the foods that have vitamin A in them… like chicken for instance.

Do the fathers all have broken arms or something? I guess mothers are the only ones allowed by law to make dinner.

So you don’t think a vitamin deficiency in childhood can lead to permanent physical problems?
Yeah, that’s just what the parents want you to think caused it. They repeatedly told him god would strike him blind if he kept touching his dirty parts like that.

This is WJLA reporting that WKRC is reporting that iHeart and the Daily Mail are reporting that “a popular social media doctor” in Malaysia posted this on Facebook. In Malay.

What’s that got to do with chicken nuggets? Chickens got feathers, too, but eating them ain’t gonna help.

I disagree with this. It’s much cheaper to make your own meals than go out for fast food. People go with garbage food not because of cost, but because of time and effort. Hell, McDonalds costs over 10 dollars for almost every one of their combos now. I grabbed food from Popeyes for me and my partner last month and it was over 30 dollars. Fast food isn’t cheap anymore.
Last weekend I made a great cajun pasta with fresh vegetables, sausage and chicken, and when I was done, I calculated that it cost about 3 dollars for each healthy sized serving. BUT, it took me over an hour of work to make it. And I can make a ton of great meals for easily under 5 dollars a person that are healthy and well balanced.
But, working parents who are worn out just don’t have the time and energy to cook. Many weren’t even ever taught HOW to cook. It’s about convenience and effort FAR more than it is about cost.

No need to go to Whole Foods for healthy food.

Do you still live in the ’90s economy and are Whole Foods being built in food deserts or can we stop the lie that in 2025 chain fast food is cheaper than healthy food? A sausage egg is $8 where I live. 1lb of steel cut oats is $2.99, add in a pint of out of season strawberries for $5. There’s a week of healthy breakfast for the price of one day of fast food breakfast.
Sounds bogus. The guy who did Fast Food Nation was a raging alcoholic.
Who has time to cook when there’s so many new shows on Netflix.
Eating healthy vs not eating healthy is rarely about circumstances and almost always about priorities.
Breeding licenses are eugenics. Egenica is bad. We need to promote disgenics. For the childrxn.

There’s the time you spent cooking, but also the time you spent acquiring each of those ingredients. Depending on where you live relative to the nearest grocery store, and the transit options connecting them, that could be a significant amount. And if you don’t have a lot of storage space it’s harder to save money by buying in bulk when something is on sale.

Incorrect. It is 100% because billionaires and trillionaires won’t all the inner cities to have healthy food. Anything that isnt an Erehwon is actually just recycled chicken poop. It’s a food desert. The overmasters in the government put the underchuds in a thrall and force them to drink Mt. Dew.

Buy steel cut oats and and strawberry are a different culture. We need culturally sensitive foods in the food deserts. Things people know. Like donkey teeth.

My mother wasn’t a health food nut per se, but I did eat mostly traditional stuff. Fast food, soda, chips and Little Debbie type snacks were very far and few between. I was only allowed one box of pre sweetened cereal per month. It was usually corn flakes, Rice Krispies, Special K, etc., and I could only put one teaspoon of sugar in it for that. In the winter it was oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast. This was in the ’70s too. I remember thinking “as soon as I get old enough to move out I’m only eating burgers or pizza for dinner”.
I guess it affected me because even though I do indulge in fast food and other unhealthy treats I just don’t do it as much as I thought I would and actually cook most of my meals myself and only indulge in that other stuff as occasional treats. I still hate most vegetables but I get my vitamin C with V8 or grapefruit juice.
But you can pry my pizza, steak and cheese subs, and buffalo wings from my cold dead hands.
